About Lawrence of Arabia

Arguably one of the best films ever made, David Lean’s story depicts the life of T.E. Lawrence, the controversial and romanticized British officer who led an Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. Starring a cast that includes Peter O’Toole as Lawrence, Alec Guinness, Omar Sharif, Claude Rains, Anthony Quinn, and José Ferrer (who once said, “If I was to be judged by any one film performance, it would be my five minutes in Lawrence”), and nominated for 10 Academy Awards with seven wins, Lawrence of Arabia was the first film ever screened at IU Cinema when it first opened 15 years ago in 2011. [227 min; drama, adventure; English, Arabic, and Turkish]

“As much larger-than-life character study as war drama, the film made a star of Peter O’Toole, whose intense performance brings T.E. Lawrence alive as the blue-eyed desert warrior and obsessive dreamer.” – Sean Axmaker, Stream on Demand

“The film is impeccably designed from every element on the screen, and words can often fail to accurately describe the elegance that is crafted.” – Josh Parham, Next Best Picture

“A supremely engrossing film, Lawrence of Arabia makes one forget that it runs nearly three and three-quarter hours, and sends one out haunted and shaken.” – Josephine O’Neill, Sydney Morning Herald
