About Sorry to Bother You

In an alternate present-day version of Oakland, Calif., Black telemarketer Cassius Green (LaKeith Stanfield) discovers a magical key to professional success. As Green's career begins to take off, his friends and co-workers organize a protest against corporate oppression. Green soon falls under the spell of Steve Lift, a cocaine-snorting CEO who offers him a salary beyond his wildest dreams. Propelled into a macabre universe, Green is forced to examine his conscience. Boots Riley’s completely original, bizarre, and wildly prescient debut feature has plenty to say about race, class, consumerism, our media consumption, and so much more. A phenomenal ensemble casts brings Riley's dystopian and witty vision to life, including Tessa Thompson, Steven Yeun, and Danny Glover. [112 min; comedy, satire, drama, sci-fi; English]

"This surrealist comic moral tale, about a poor man selling his soul to ascend in a golden elevator to the heights of a dubious corporation, is a balls-to-the-wall, tits-to-the-glass, spectacular orgy of fist-pumping, anti-capitalist, pro-labor ideas rolled into 105 minutes of gloriously unpredictable plot." — April Wolfe, Village Voice

"Bizarre, razor sharp, and uncomfortably hilarious all at once, Sorry to Bother You is an unforgettable film-watching experience." — Matthew St. Clair, Cinema Sentries

"Your either going to love this or hate it, there simply is no compromised middle ground with this completely unhinged, ethereal take on corporate manipulation and slavery, class prejudices and racial perceptions." — Zhera Phelan, Flavourmag
