More than an arthouse cinema, we screen classic and new films from around the world, host visiting filmmakers and film experts, and collaborate with student, IU, and community groups—all to bring you into a massive world of film right here on campus.

My real education was at the Cinema—in the auditorium watching movies, in masterclasses with visiting filmmakers, in the lobby talking with patrons, and having the opportunity to learn from staff what it truly means to be a professional.

Our upcoming program will feature classics you’ve always wanted to see on the big screen, new movies from across the globe, and exciting filmmakers and film experts who can’t wait to talk to you about their work. (We’ve hosted Meryl Streep, John Waters, and Mr. Fisheoder Kevin Kline before, so yeah, we’re pretty cool.)

IU Cinema is a great place to meet new people—especially if you decide you want to become one of our volunteers. You’ll be able to watch all the movies you can imagine (honestly, do we need to say more?), meet visiting filmmakers, and see what it’s like to work behind-the-scenes in the film industry. Many of our volunteers have told us that being a part of IU Cinema was their best college experience!
