Kataoka Ichiro is one of the top professional benshi
in Japan. He was the star pupil of the undisputed
master benshi, Sawato Midori. As a benshi, he tours
globally and accompanies Japanese silent films by
voicing the characters. His visit is sponsored by the

University of Michigan Center for World Performance
