The Unburied Experience: Visceral Filmmaking This program will not be a typical Jorgensen Lecture or on-stage interview. The format will be a live unveiling of deteriorated footage from Sergei Eisenstein's 1925 film, Battleship Potemkin (the Odessa Steps sequence, to be precise), which will be examined and re-edited into a found-footage experimental film by Josephine Decker and Russell Sheaffer. At the end of the 70-minute program, the 16mm footage will be projected for the audience.

Recently named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film, Josephine Decker just premiered her first two narrative features at the Berlinale Forum 2014. Along with directing, she says that she is fortunate to be collaborating with artists she admires. She has recently starred in Brigitta Wagner’s Rosehill, Stephen Cone’s Black Box, Joe Swanberg’s Uncle Kent and Art History, Joe Swanberg and Adam Wingard’s Autoerotic, and Onur Tukel’s Richard’s Wedding. Josephine raises awareness about environmental issues through her performance art. Richard Brody of The New Yorker stated that, “The most original independent filmmaker to surface in the past few years is Josephine Decker.”
