Al Otro Lado weaves together various narrative threads around
the topic of drug trafficking. An aspiring corrido composer writes
songs for local drug lords as he contemplates immigrating illegally
to the U.S. or becoming a drug trafficker due to the poor economic
prospects in his small fishing town. While also tracing the connections
between the corrido and gangsta rap, the film explores the
illicit and cultural economies surrounding the plight of migrants
