About The Beauty Academy of Kabul

Year Released:
2004
Genres:
Documentary
Metadata:

A diverse group of American women, financed by the fashion industry, travel to post-Taliban Afghanistan to improbably open a beauty school. The documentary shows the sometimes strange and often touching collaboration and clash of cultures as the American stylists teach Afghan women their art and craft. The Afghan women, who have faced years of war and oppression, prove enthusiastic students for what is to them both a means of joyful self-expression and financial independence. In English and Persian with English subtitles. (35mm. Presentation)
