Named by Variety as one of “10 Documakers to Watch” in 2016, the veteran advertising executive Deborah Riley Draper has launched her career as a documentary filmmaker with two features which present the perspectives of Black American cultural icons that have contributed to shaping American history, often in ways not yet recognized, from the impact of the first Black models in the world of high fashion to the early African American Olympians who inspired on the field and beyond.
