After the murder of King Agamemnon (Giannis Fertis) at the hands of his intimate circle led by his wife Clytemnestra (Aleka Katselli), Agamemnon’s family disintegrates: his son Orestes is sent into exile, and his daughter Electra (Irene Papas) is imprisoned for several years and then married off to a peasant to marginalize her from the family and Agamemnon’s legacy. Years later, Electra seeks revenge for her mother’s treachery with the help of her brother and cousin, but their actions will forever change their fates. Electra won the award for Best Cinematic Transposition (Adaptation) at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In Greek with English subtitles.
