About Brother

Adapted from David Chariandy’s award-winning novel of the same name, Brother follows Francis and Michael, inseparable brothers facing questions of masculinity, family, race, and identity during the pulsing beats of Toronto's early hip-hop scene. Told largely in flashbacks, Brother marks the return to screen for director Clement Virgo, who was born in Jamaica and raised in Toronto and called upon his personal experience to bring this story of loss, love, healing, and grief to life. [119 min; drama; English]

"Ensembles don't get better than this. Brother is a delicately crafted, all-consuming piece that offers the opportunity to not just watch but wholly feel its characters' experiences." — Perri Nemiroff

"The story is filtered through a familiar gaze that speaks to folks of specific communities while also broadcasting a universal message of what it means to be an outsider." — Valerie Complex, Deadline Hollywood

"There’s such gracefulness to the filmmaking here, cutting back and forth across time, building like a thriller." — Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com
