About Free Angela and All Political Prisoners

Shortly after being fired from UCLA in 1970 for expressing her political beliefs, Angela Davis becomes a fugitive from the FBI upon suspicion of association with a courtroom kidnapping attempt that claimed four lives. This documentary allows Davis to voice her insights on the effects of being incarcerated and charged with conspiracy and terrorism, and the echoes of these volatile events in her ongoing work as an activist. [102 min; documentary; English]

"Free Angela and All Political Prisoners may seem to take place in a distant past, but it resonates with improbable timeliness." — Ann Hornaday, Washington Post

"A snappily edited, archivally wallpapered recollection of fearless behavior in the face of an antsy establishment. But it's equally significant as a pointed act of retelling." — Nicolas Rapold, New York Times

"Fascinating eye-opener that not only brings history alive, but reverberates into today's controversies over guns, government surveillance, racial profiling, and media frenzy." — Nora Lee Mandel, Maven's Nest
