Join us on May 14 in the IU Cinema Virtual Screening Room at 6:55 pm EST for a conversation and interactive Q&A with filmmaker and IU alumna Eliza Hittman.

Eliza Hittman is an award-winning filmmaker, born and based in Brooklyn, N.Y. Her latest film Never Rarely Sometimes Always premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition section at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, where it received a special jury award. The film had its international premiere in competition in the Berlin Film Festival and released by Focus Features this spring. Beach Rats, her second feature film, premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, where she won the Directing Award. It premiered internationally at Locarno in the Golden Leopard Competition and was the Centerpiece Film at New Directors/New Films. Beach Rats was released domestically by NEON Rated and was a New York Times Critic’s Pick. Her micro-budget debut feature film It Felt Like Love premiered at Sundance in 2013 in the NEXT programming section and was a New York Times Critic’s Pick. Hittman earned an MFA from California Institute of the Arts, has taught at Columbia University, and is currently an assistant professor of film/video at Pratt Institute in New York. She is the recipient of the Emerging Artist Award from Lincoln Center and a 2018 Guggenheim Fellow.

Lauren E. Long is a senior studying sex and cognition and is in her second term as a director with Union Board. Having cultivated a deep love for cinema since childhood, she is thrilled to direct the films committee alongside Sahil Patel. Their mission as a team of directors in this season of change is to comfort, engage, and challenge Indiana University students through film and media programming.
