About Chain Reactions

Chain Reactions chronicles The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's impact on five artists—actor/comedian Patton Oswalt, director Takashi Miike, writer Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, novelist Stephen King, and director Karyn Kusama— through interviews and outtakes, exploring how it shaped their own art and their relationship to film art as a whole. At its core, the film uses its novel investigative format to understand how art functions as a critical catharsis point in purging our darker impulses. [103 min; documentary; English and Japanese with English subtitles]

This film will be introduced by director Alexandre O. Philippe, who will also hold a post-screening Q&A session.

"Exploration of our inexplicable attraction to horror is the true theme of the brilliantly titled Chain Reactions." — Christian Zilko, IndieWire

"Chain Reactions finds the beauty in the despair, and how fine cinematic storytelling isn’t confined to tales of good winning over evil. It’s a love letter to horror, art, influence, and how Tobe Hooper and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre changed cinema forever, whether you can stomach it or not." — Emma Kieley, Collider

"As a meditation on the power of the cinematic art form, the documentary succeeds as a valuable cultural examination." — David Cuevas, Next Best Picture
