This animated semi-documentary visualizes the evolution of human communication from the Stone Age to today and beyond—from storytelling, to the contemporary humanexus of billions of biological brains and many more technological artifacts, to multiple possible futures—showing enormous changes in the quantity and quality of our collective knowledge. The film is the product of collaboration between artist Ying-Fang Shen, former IU Fine Art student and now professor at Virginia Commonwealth University; IU professor Katy Börner, an expert in the theory and practice of data mining and information visualization; and Norbert Herber, a musician and sound artist from IU’s Media School.
