Winner of the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, this autobiographical film depicts the experiences of director Rithy Pahn and his family under the 1975–1979 rule of the Khmer Rouge, the Cambodian regime that orchestrated a genocide in its attempt to establish a purely agrarian-based Communist society. Using clay figurines and archival footages to reconstruct Cambodia’s dark history, the film raises poignant questions on how acts of violence ought to be represented and memorialized. In French with English subtitles. (2K DCP presentation)
