In this allegory about drug addition, a philosophy graduate student in New York (Lily Taylor) is bitten by a vampire and turns into one herself. Filled with philosophical and theological references, the film intellectually deals with a character trying to come to terms with her new lifestyle and insatiable cravings, in this case, for human blood. “Ferrara is one of the few directors who can turn genre movies into something deeper,” wrote The New York Times. The film also features Annabella Sciorra and Christopher Walken. Print courtesy of Abel Ferrara and Anthology Film Archives.
