In 1968, Robert Frank finished filming his feature-length film Me and My Brother at the Venice Film Festival. The work seeks out moments of improvisation in an otherwise scripted and premeditated structure. This “faux verité” is not just Sam Shepard’s first film as a screenwriter and Christopher Walken’s debut, but it also features Joseph Chaikin, Julius and Peter Orlovsky, John Coe, and Allen Ginsberg in an intimate portrait of the artists, friends, family, and works that defined 1960s art life in New York.
