About Romeo and Juliet

An adaptation of the classic Shakespeare tragedy of star-crossed lovers caught in the middle of a feud between their families. Popular with critics and younger audiences at the time of it release, the film was lauded for being the first cinematic adaption to cast actors (including Olivia Hussey as Juliet, Leonard Whiting as Romeo, and Michael York as Tybalt) close to the age of the play's characters. The film won 16 major awards, including Oscars for Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design. [138 mins; drama, romance; English]
