Reeling from the revelation that his wife has been unfaithful, a journalist's life is further thrown into chaos by the explosion of the nearby Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
On the eve of the Chornobyl accident, journalist Oleksandr Zhuravliov returns home to his family in Kyiv. The next day, everything will be changed forever. The scope and details of the accident are carefully concealed. But Oleksandr does not give up and attempts to reveal the truth amidst a dysfunctional society and the collapse of the Soviet state apparatus. Decay became the first feature film about Chornobyl filmed during the "perestroika" political movement of the Communist Party and Mikhail Gorbachev's "glasnost" policy reform. Moreover, Decay become one of the first cases of Ukrainian-American collaboration as film sound was recorded in Dolby Surround format at George Lucas’s Skywalker Ranch.
