Gone with the River is the story of an Indigenous woman who lives in her community but learns Spanish, becomes a teacher in the Spanish-speaking world, and encounters rejection by her Indigenous community and husband as a result. Spoken almost entirely in Warao, a Native language of Venezuela, Guyana, and Suirname, Gone with the River was Venezuela's first film shot in the language and was selected as the country's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.
