About Cuadecuc, Vampir

A visually stunning experimental documentary about the making of Jess Franco's Count Dracula (which stars Christopher Lee as the Count), Cuadecuc, Vampir is also much more than that. A dreamy, atmospheric vampire tale in its own right, it combines supernatural imagery with candid footage of the stars and clips showing how special effects were achieved. Described by Bleeding Skull as an episode of Dark Shadows directed by a Czech New Wave filmmaker, this film is perfect viewing for a cool October night. Programmed by Prof. Joan Hawkins and screened to honor her work and legacy at IU Cinema and The Media School. [75 min; documentary, horror; English and Spanish with English subtitles]

"Radically experimental Catalan filmmaker Pere Portabella creates a mesmerizingly metacinematic vampire story like no other." — Katie Duggan, Film Daze

"A radical, avant-garde mood piece that is among the most mysterious artifacts in cinema." — Tom Grieve, The Skinny

"Among the most highly regarded avant-garde films of the past half century." — J. Hoberman, The New York Times
