About Hamilton

Premiering on Broadway in 2015 and returning to theaters to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Hamilton is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton took the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton—inspired by the book Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow— and created a revolutionary moment in theatre with a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. Filmed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in June of 2016, the film transports its audience into the world of the Broadway show in a uniquely intimate way. The 11-time Tony, Grammy, Olivier, and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical's filmed version features its original Broadway cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom, Jr., Anthony Ramos, and Phillipa Soo. [180 min; biography, drama, musical; English]

"Director Thomas Kail’s filmed version of the blockbuster musical Hamilton ... surely is the greatest translation, democratization and preservation of any Broadway show, ever." — Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune

"It’s an indisputable classic." — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

"Hamilton stands as a reminder of how hard it is to get a democracy right, and how necessary it is to keep trying, as long as it takes." — Ty Burr, Boston Globe
