A moving and honest drama about a man and woman's quest for better lives in Lagos, Nigeria. Q&A to follow.
Eyimofe is the story of two Nigerians working to better their financial circumstances and transform their lives. Mofe and Rosa each dream of lives in Europe and are willing to work as hard as necessary to get there. But circumstances constantly thwart their efforts. In a story about capitalism, urban life, migration, belonging, and misogyny, Eyimofe offers a critical, sensitive portrait of people having to reconsider their goals and desires. [116 min; drama; English, Yoruba, and Italian with English subtitles]
A Q&A will follow the screening.
"Delivers a timeless, universal portrait of human resilience while establishing Arie and Chuko as a welcome new addition to the filmmaking brood." — Michael Rechtshaffen, Los Angeles Times
"Entirely shot in 16mm, Eyimofe provides an intimate look at a working class Nigeria, a country that is often not shown so authentically on screen to Western audiences." — Adriana Gomez-Weston, The Cinema Soloist
"The portrait of life that emerges organically from this understated, observant approach makes Eyimofe the rare social realist drama that conveys critique without didacticism and empathy without pity." — Devika Girish, New York Times
