New African Cinema
The New African Cinema series is a biannual program of some of the best African films produced on the continent in the last few years. The programmers choose a combination of documentary and fiction films with geographical diversity across the continent in order to give the IU and Bloomington community a sense of the range and qualities of African cinema at the current moment.
This semester's screenings include:
March 28, 4pm | Eyimofe (This is My Desire): A moving and honest drama about a man and woman's quest for better lives in Lagos, Nigeria. Q&A to follow.
March 28, 7pm | Dahomey: With a rigorous yet fantastical approach, filmmaker Mati Diop provocatively uncovers the restitution and repatriation of a stolen legacy. Q&A to follow.
March 29, 7pm | Mambar Pierrette: A graceful, neorealist portrait of a Cameroonian seamstress and the rich community that surrounds her. Q&A to follow.
