Fall 2024 | Queer Resistance: Be Gay. Do Crimes.
The colloquialism “Be Gay, Do Crimes” has become shorthand for the contemporary politics of queer resistance. This is increasingly true when, for many queer people, simply existing has required their de facto criminalization. As a revolutionary slogan of solidarity, “Be Gay, Do Crimes” acknowledges the often precarious lived reality of many in the queer community while simultaneously reproaching the demonization of identity, pinkwashing capitalism, and institutional erasure. The films in this series, then, celebrate the inherent linkage between the freedom in queerness and in a life outside the law.
