Set amongst the dark shadows of postwar Vienna, the film centers on Holly Martin (memorably played by Joseph Cotten), a novelist looking for his missing friend. While Orson Welles made a career with larger-than-life characters, it is the mysterious charm of his brief appearance as Harry Lime that makes the path to this moment intoxicating.
