Patricio Guzmán’s visit has been postponed. New dates have not been determined. He will not be present at any April events. The Atacama Desert is where astronomers from all over the world gather to observe the stars, with a sky so translucent that you can see the boundaries of the universe. It is also a place where the harsh, dry heat keeps human remains intact; those of Pre-Columbian mummies alongside the remains of political prisoners of the Chilean army from 1973. While astronomers examine distant galaxies, surviving relatives search for remains to reclaim their families’ histories. Melding the celestial quest of the astronomers with the earthly one of families, Nostalgia for the Light is a gorgeous, moving, and deeply personal odyssey. In Spanish with English subtitles. (35mm Presentation)
