From legendary director Ridley Scott comes a gripping tale of human strength and the will to survive. During a mission to Mars, American astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead and left behind. But Watney is still alive. Against all odds, he must find a way to contact Earth in the hope that scientists can devise a rescue plan to bring him home. Following the film will be a panel discussion on the reality of how Mars could be made habitable. Dr. Mariek Schmidt is a volcanologist and igneous petrologist with research interests that span both Earth and Mars. She was a collaborator on the Mars Exploration Rover and is a Participating Scientist on the Mars Science Lab mission as well as a member of the Alpha Particle X-Ray Spectrometer instrument team. Her research is now centered equally on Mars and Earth, with investigations into the histories of volcanic fields in Oregon and New Mexico and Mars-based research on Martian meteorites and rover landing sites.
