About Hunt for the Cossack Gold

In ancient times, the Ukrainian hetman sent treasures with his son to the British bank, hoping that Ukraine would be free one day and the gold would help the people thrive. In the early 1990s, KGB agents, foreign spies, and local criminals are following the hetman's descendant Ivan Polubotko, entrusted with a mission of national importance: to retrieve the hetman's gold. One of the best Ukrainian comedies of the period, Hunt for the Cossack Gold reflects on both the traumatic Soviet past and the uncertain Ukrainian future. [90 min; comedy; Ukrainian and Russian with English subtitles]

"A satirical comedy that aims to reinvent the patriotic adventure genre in Ukrainian cinema ... Overall, the film reflects on the Ukrainian past in the Soviet Union and weaves it into the narration of Ukrainian identity." — Hyperallergic
