One More Step West Is the Sea is a film about the legendary Beat poet ruth weiss (name always lowercase), a Nazi refugee in the 1930s, innovator of Jazz & Poetry in Chicago in the late 1940s, major female Beat Generation partaker in San Francisco in the 1950s, filmmaker in the 1960s, and environmental activist at the Mendocino Coast in the 1980s who was still performing until her death in 2020. [90 min; documentary; English and German with English subtitles]

A Q&A with director Thomas Antonic, Joan Hawkins (Cinema and Media Studies), and Teresa Kovacs (Germanic Studies; Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance) will follow the screening.
