The world premiere of a new, original score composed for Jean Epstein's French Impressionist classic.
Set against a background of the Marseille docks, Cœur Fidèle (The Faithful Heart) is a melodramatic story of thwarted romance that showcases experiments with many techniques of camerawork and editing directed by master French Impressionist Jean Epstein. This screening will be accompanied by a live score composed by IU Jacobs student Yi-Chen Chiang, and performed by IU Jacobs student musicians.
As a composer, Yi-Chen Chiang has experience in film scoring, composition, and orchestration. She is proficient in a wide range of genres, including classical, orchestral, epic, ethnic, city pop, and anime-style music. As a dedicated collaborator, Yi-Chen writes professional and customized music for visual media. She loves to create and explore the most suitable music for each film.
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Yi-Chen has been immersed in music for 20 years. Her musical journey started when she first touched the piano at five years old, and at the age of 11, she started to write classical music. At Fu Jen Catholic University, where she earned her Bachelor of Music and Fine Arts degree, she mastered applied music, composition, recording, and communication arts. Engaging in varied music scoring projects, films scored by Yi-Chen have been nominated in many film festivals, including Signs of the Night (Paris), Seoul International Senior Film Festival, Nara International Film Festival, Croatia Diversions International Short Film Festival, and Singapore International Film Festival. Her scoring for the film 3108 was nominated for Best Original Music at the Golden Sugarcane Film Festival. Currently, Yi-Chen is pursuing her Master of Music degree in Music Scoring for Visual Media at Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, collaborating with professors, filmmakers, and musicians to achieve breakthroughs in her composition style.
