About The Brood

A disturbed woman receiving a radical form of psychotherapy at a mysterious institute. Her five-year-old daughter, in the care of her estranged husband, terrorized by a group of demonic beings. The shocking intersection of these two storylines is the maniacal core of The Brood, David Cronenberg's tale of monstrous parenthood. With its combination of psychological and body horror and science fiction, The Brood laid the groundwork for many of the director’s films to come, but Cronenberg considers the film his most "classic" horror movie. [92 min; horror; English]

"The Brood sees the undisputed king of body horror honing his visceral eye, whilst at the same time offering up several truly iconic images that have quite clearly endured." — CineVue

"The picture is Cronenberg’s most satisfyingly melodramatic work, fully realized for emotional consequences over typical horror revulsion, and a crucial stepping stone in the advancement of one of today’s most important filmmakers." — Brian Eggers, Deep Focus Review

"The Brood is the stuff of nightmares on every level, the recurring kind that stick with you and infect the rest of your day, long after you wake up. A dark, twisted parable, it stands as one of David Cronenberg's most unsettling works." — Brent MnKnight, The Last Thing I See
