About L'Inferno
L’Inferno is an adaptation of Dante’s poem, describing a pilgrim’s journey through Hell. The poet’s vivid descriptions of Hell’s tortures have inspired artists for centuries. With flying serpents, harpies, devils, special effects, and nudity, it was jaw-dropping for its time. Equally bizarre and original, L'Inferno, the first feature-length horror film ever released, has also inspired artists for decades, including Kenneth Anger, who reproduced clips from L’Inferno in his “Magick Lantern cycle,” and Tangerine Dream, who created a soundtrack for the 2004 DVD release. A visual spectacle themselves, Montopolis will be performing a live score for the ethereal and horrific L’Inferno. Montopolis is an indie chamber music group from Texas. These self-described “musical shape shifters” combine psych rock, dark wave, and terrifying sound effects in their immersive live soundtracks. Their acclaimed national tour, providing a score for the 1929 Soviet film Man with the Movie Camera, was described as “stunning and transcendent” (Austin Chronicle).
"Using aesthetics and visuals to capture the poetic horrors of this story, there is a weight and terror found within L'Inferno that can only be achieved through the cinematic platform." — Carson Timar, ButteredPopcorn
