Movement: Asian/Pacific America
Movement is unique in the state of Indiana for its role in introducing Asian American/Pacific Islander film- and videomaking to the campus and general public. Launched at IU Cinema in 2012, the series grapples with themes of identity, belonging, and power from the perspectives of Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Asian/Pacific diasporic directors, screenwriters, actors, and subjects. Movement invites audiences to consider the multifaceted vibrancies and complexities of Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Asian/Pacific diasporic individuals and communities. In line with the intersectional, multi-disciplinary nature of Asian American Studies, screening selections highlight crosscurrents of sexuality, gender, labor, migration, race, ability, family, citizenship, and sovereignty, to name a few. Movement evokes evolution and transformation—both within and beyond Asian/Pacific America. This partnership is supported through IU Cinema’s Creative Collaborations program.
Curated by Hoosier Asian American Power, with support from IU Cinema.
