“I shall never forget the weekend Laura died.” So begins one of the greatest film noirs that was ever made. When the beautiful Laura Hunt (Gene Tierney in a career-defining performance) is murdered, Det. Mark McPherson (Dana Andrews) has plenty of suspects, including her playboy fiancé (Vincent Price) and the manipulative columnist (Clifton Webb) who was her mentor. The more McPherson investigates, though, the more entranced he becomes with the deceased Laura. Brimming with biting wit and clever twists, Laura is rightly considered one of producer-director Otto Preminger’s masterpieces.
